Job Captain

MSA planning + design is currently seeking a Job Captain with 5+ years of experience with a strong retail background to join our downtown San Francisco office. Our mid‐sized firm specializes in interior architecture for retail stores, commercial interiors and healthcare projects.

Responsibilities

  • Provide project team coordination and/or supervision for the finished plans, specifications, and material selections required for construction.
  • Prepare and ensure accurate technical documents.
  • Extensive architectural CAD drawing production: design, construction documents, as‐builts, space planning, block planning, plotting, etc.
  • Work with consultants, contractors, fabricators, specification writers, and regulatory agencies to meet overall project objectives.
  • Communicate employee development of drafters to project manager.
  • Responsible for project level verbal and written client communication.
  • Coordination and communication with team and engineer consultants.
  • Communicate drafter’s development with project architect and/or senior associate.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5‐8 years of progressive drafting experience on retail or commercial projects.
  • Excellent communication and management skills
  • Degree from an accredited architecture or design school desired.
  • Advanced AutoCAD & Revit skills (version 2014).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Windows environment.
  • 3D modeling and Adobe Creative Suite experience beneficial.
  • A detail‐oriented and organized approach to work.
  • A strong sense of urgency and ability to work with deadlines.
  • Ability to adapt to changing needs and priorities of fast‐track projects.
  • Reliable, responsible and able to communicate well with colleagues, consultants, and clients.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Proactive and self‐motivated.
  • A sense of humor and a team player.

Designer

MSA planning + design is currently seeking a Designer with 5+ years of experience with design development through construction documentation experience to join our downtown San Francisco office. Our mid-sized firm specializes in interior architecture for retail stores, commercial interiors and healthcare projects.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Project Designer or Senior Designer with their projects.
  • Collaborate with client, consultants and in-house team members on architecture and interiors projects
  • Work with project team to ensure that client’s design direction is met.
  • Assist in formulating and generating design presentations.
  • Selects, coordinates and produces color, material, hardware, furniture, and fixture specifications.
  • Responsible for the production of all interior design documentation and detailing.
  • Experience and ability to conduct accurate field surveys expeditiously.
  • Ability to work on multiple concurrent projects in a diverse team environment.
  • Ability to design in compliance with American with Disabilities Act requirements and all relevant local codes.
  • Communicate employee development of assistant designer(s) to project designer.
  • Provides information for annual performance reviews as required.

Qualifications

  • 5-8 years design & planning experience on retail or commercial projects. Healthcare, hospitality, workplace or retail background and experience desired.
  • Degree from an accredited architecture or design school.
  • Knowledge of architecture, design, drafting, building materials, building codes, and construction.
  • A good understanding of client customer service focus.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with project teams.
  • Ability to complete tasks accurately and with a strong attention to detail.
  • A strong sense of urgency and ability to work with multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to adapt to changing needs and priorities of fast-track projects.
  • Knowledge of sustainable design principles desired.
  • Advanced AutoCAD $ Revit skills (version 2014).
  • Revit experience or training desired, but not mandatory.
  • Proficiency with 3D modeling and Adobe Creative Suite desired.
  • Experience with Illustrator and Photoshop desired.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Windows environment.
  • A sense of humor.
